Ian's very first trip to Disneyland! - part 2

If you missed part 1, it's Ian's very first trip to Disneyland today! Ruston and Jacob joined for this special visit.

Having just completed our visit with the Easter Bunny, we look around the festival arena a little more.

Nice to see the some of last year's eggs from the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail Easter Egg hunt re-used over here.

(from Easter 2013)

The four of us were all a bit hungry still and we're off on another mission. A few weeks ago, Ruston sent us a link to a site that listed 15 Stunning Disneyland Foods and Drinks Worth Waiting in Line For. Each of us picked our own favorites from the list and vowed to try them next time we visited the parks.
First up was the Barbecue Chicken Stuffed Baked Potato from the Harbor Gallery.

We grabbed our food and headed to the back of the Hungry Bear seating area to get a little bit of quiet.

For $6.39 the BBQ Chicken potato was decent. It was a little overcooked which is usually the case for potatoes like this. The list promised a sweet orange glazed chicken but it just tasted like regular BBQ sauce to all of us. Still, T appreciated it for being a good non-greasy option in the park.

Also on the menu is a Bacon and Sour Cream potato. That sounded better to me. It was a typical loaded baked potato and neither impressed nor disappointed me.

It's time for Ian to go on his very first Disneyland ride ever!!! The one we chose for him is Theresa's favorite, Winnie the Pooh!

Hi! It's my very first ride!

He seemed in pretty good spirits going into it.

But as soon as we entered the show building and the loud noises started, he gave us a little whimper.

He was eyes wide open during the whole ride, but I don't think he enjoyed it that much. I guess I never realized how loud the ride was before. I certainly noticed it today.

I recorded it as well if you're curious to see it.

So he's not a huge fan of rides at the moment. We'll have to get some repetition in there so he becomes more familiar with them.

Just like every time after we finish a ride on Pooh, we visit Pooh's Corner for a treat. Today we were planning on trying another item on that top 15 food list, the Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Sandwich. Once we got to the counter though, they informed us they had sold out of all the ones that had, and they even mentioned that top 15 list as the reason why.

We've got to do at least one grown-up ride while we're here. Ruston had previously grabbed fastpasses for Big Thunder while we were hanging out in the festival arena and it was just about time to use them. Theresa found a shaded bench and fed Ian while the rest of us went to check out the updates. It was a quick wait in the fastpass line and once we got to the front of the line, we asked to ride in our favorite spot, the very back. Before the station attendant would let us go though, we had to answer a Disneyland trivia question.

"There is only one ride at Disneyland. Name it." I'll give you a couple photos to look at while you think about the answer.

Honestly my memory of how the ride was before is a little fuzzy. It has been down for 14 months...

It's always a great ride though, and the finale is a definite improvement on the sometimes working shaking boulder cavern.

And the answer to the trivia question above? Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. All the rest are attractions. Ian's sleepy, but we've got one more ride to get in. it's a small world is open briefly during the 50th anniversary of it's World Fair debut. We thought that'd be a pretty safe ride for him.

While he didn't complain at all, he was eyeing the characters from this position the entire time. I think we learned something today. Don't take Ian on the rides if he's tired. He's not going to fall asleep and he might even be a little more cranky.

I was hoping to get a cool family picture in front of the castle with Theresa, myself and Ian smiling really big for our first visit. But it's been a very hectic day and Ian is starting to wind down. Instead we just get a couple photos with a sleeping baby.

Ian ends up in the stroller and goes down for a much needed nap. When we were at Pooh Corner asking about the Chocolate/Peanut Butter Sandwich they were sold out, but they told us we could find the same thing at the Candy Palace on Main Street.

Just about everything in this case looks good. On top of the Chocolate/Peanut Butter Sandwich to split, we also get a chocolate covered pretzel rod and a chocolate/caramel marshmallow stick.

It's just about the size of half a graham cracker and at $3.99 it's a little pricey.

Inside is a smooth peanut butter filling along with a graham cracker base and it's all covered with chocolate. It's tasty, but honestly I'd prefer a Reese's cup. If I'm in the parks, I'd get something a little more unique.

Our last stop is the baby shop on Main Street. Ian will be styling in his new Mickey Mouse and Tigger outfits on his next visit.

Before we go, there's one last picture we've got to take in front of the Mickey Mouse floral at the entrance. Next visit I'm definitely going to try to get a few more shots to try to get Ian looking at the camera and maybe even smiling.

It was a fun day hanging out with friends and celebrating the first of many trips to the parks. Thank you Ruston and Jacob for joining us!

Ian was so well behaved today! He was almost always in good spirits and I don't think he cried once. I think the only thing we need to change is all the stuff we're packing in the stroller. Instead of trying to plan for every contingency we should make sure we cover the important things like food and diapers and just deal with the rest as it pops up.

Here's to hoping this is the first of many new trip reports from Disneyland!
