Father's Day and the 2014 Pasadena Chalk Festival

Happy Father's Day! My very first year of being a dad and I've got an awesome little boy.

Why is he so happy? Because he loves being tossed up in the air. He giggles and laughs so much!

Good morning little boy. You're such a good sleeper and you wake up so happy!

I love that you're growing so big and strong! Holding yourself up for 30 seconds now.

The morning started off great with a breakfast of blueberry muffins that Theresa made. Mmm.

Ian has some great father figures in his life. My Dad was just out here visiting a few weeks ago.

And Theresa's Dad watches him nearly every day.

It's Father's Day weekend, so what word does Ian decide to repeat over and over?

You little rascal.

Oh, but I love you anyhow. We'll get you saying Da-da soon enough.

Does Theresa know me well or what? This was Father's Day lunch. Beef ribs, pork ribs, sweet potato fries, BBQ baked beans, and lots of other tasty foods.

I don't have ribs nearly often enough, and this meal was delicious.

After lunch it was time to head out for our 2nd event of the day. We're driving up to Pasadena to meet up with Ruston and Jacob. This will be our fourth year exploring the Pasadena Chalk Festival together, but this year we've got a stow-away.

Ruston and Jacob just returned from a trip out to WDW. They got me this awesome hat from Gaston's Tavern to add to my hat collection.

And Ian just loves the Figment plush that came from Epcot.

Time to head to downtown Pasadena to see the 2014 Pasadena Chalk Festival.

Off to see the artists!

There were some entries that just blew you away with the shading and saturation of the colors.

Others were just a little weird.

I like seeing Disney inspired drawings.

I always mean to watch Adventure Time, but I still haven't gotten around to it. I've heard it's good.

No surprise this was the inspiration for a few artists this year. We certainly enjoyed watching the Kings play and win the 2014 Stanley Cup.

A very well done Bruce Lee.

How cute. A little Maleficent.

T and Ian posing with the Maleficent picture.

This artist always has a variation on a similar theme. Check out my 2013 and 2012 reports.

From artist that has won many of the awards in previous years, this year she chose to draw Michael Jackson.

Egon, but not forgotten.

Quite a few representations of the Hulk this year.

I've seen some people bringing small step-stools with them to get a higher view of the chalk drawings. This guy takes the cake.

Haha.

I'm not sure if GMC was a sponsor this year or not, but they at least commissioned someone to make a really nice drawing.

Ah, Frozen is getting some love from 10 year old Abigail Edelstein. Awesome job!

It's a great atmosphere at the Paseo in Pasadena. There is a live band playing and tons of people around.

Beauty and the Beast. Very nice.

These strawberries looked so real.

Heading into my favorite section, Animation Alley.

A little more Frozen love.

Cool! An early Star Wars poster.

Ian and I need our photo with that.

Wow, a whole Candyland board game.

Another Hulk battle, this time with Superman. If memory serves, Superman ended up winning this fight.

Totoro

The crew from Monsters Inc.

I always love Harley Quinn.

A Starry Night with Popeye and Olive Oil

This one had quite the group around it. Just standing there looking at it, it looked like a bunch of random shapes and colors.

But when you took a picture from a certain angle, somehow it all came together to look like Ellen DeGeneres.

A classic Maleficent.

And we end our day with a scene from the movie The Sting.

Along with doing chalk drawings, many of the artists created small paintings based on their work. There is a silent auction for these paintings, and some even go into the hundreds of dollars.

If you've read previous reports, you could have guessed how this day was going to end. Dinner at Islands!

Hopefully they don't kick Ian out for wearing an In-N-Out shirt.

In the end, it was an amazing day at the 2014 Pasadena Chalk Festival. You can bet that we'll be coming back next year. Ruston even mentioned the idea doing our own design and being in the festival next year. Will it happen? Guess we'll just have to wait until next year to see!
