Saturday Morning Cereals - Cinnamon Toast Crunch Churros

We've got another round of cereals coming up and they all have to do with Cinnamon Toast Crunch! Before this, I really didn't know that there were all that many flavors. For our first cereal, we're having Cinnamon Toast Crunch Churros! Since we like to taste it along with something, let's have it with homemade Churros!

Here's a look at the front of the box. Looks like it's Cinnamon Sugar Crunch!

I didn't realize each of the flavors of Cinnamon Toast Crunch had their own mascot. There's Slurp for the Original Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Frenchy for the French Toast Crunch. And for this, Charlie (the Churro I guess) for Cinnamon Toast Crunch Churros.

So if we're going to have Churros cereal, I think we can make homemade Churros to go along with it! Our recipe is from cookingclassy.com. The kids are always ready to help out in the kitchen. I've never made churros before so this'll be an experience.
Alli helped measure and add the water to the pot.

Ian is adding butter.

Next came sugar and salt, then it all was brought to a boil.

After boiling, I added flour.

Then gave it all a stir until it formed a soft dough.

Alli, that's an excellent job cracking an egg.

And Ian gave me a perfect pour of vanilla.

Ian added the vanilla and egg to the dough.

And then Alli helped mix it all up. Perfect kids! I'll take it from here!

Using a ziplock bag and a piping tip, I made my own piping bag.

Into the 360F oil it went for 2-3 minutes.

After a short time on a cooling rack, these beauties are ready to get their coating of cinnamon & sugar.

Perfect!

Here's the Churros cereal.

And here's my homemade churros. You could almost call them churros fries. They're pretty small compared to a regular churro.

But if you compare them to the cereal, they're pretty perfect.

Alright kids, let's dig in! First up are the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Churros!

For having a name like Churros, Ian was not expecting it to be so crunchy.
Alli and I thought it tasted fine. Yes it's crunchy, but that's because it's cereal. It's supposed to be crunchy.

Alright, now let's try the churros we made together.

Oh yeah! These are much better! The outsides are crunchy but the insides are wonderfully soft. The whole thing is still warm from the fryer too, which makes it even better.

The vote is clear and obvious. Our homemade churros are the favorite. Sorry Charlie! (how's that for a long set-up!)

  1. Didn't know about so many Cinnamon Toast Crunch varieties, either. Fresh churro fries...the clear winner! Ian's expression on the churro cereal taste, "What is this? That's not a churro!"...a picture is worth a thousand words! How did the churro fries compare to the churros at DL? P.S. Even though Alli isn't quite five, she handles those kitchen tasks well (holding the hand mixer (strange buzzing feeling when the power is on) and even cracking an egg...I remember when I first cracked an egg thinking how "easy" it looked; boy, was I surprised :-) ); and Ian has already developed so many kitchen skills for his young years, too! EOM

    1. I'll be making some Disneyland Churros as part of our Disney Treats at Home series coming up. I actually did a practice round with some of the extra batter.
I'm glad I take lots and lots of pictures. Only a few make the final post, but it allows me to get moments like Ian's face in that picture.
They're going to get exposed to so much because of COVID and us doing a lot more things at home!
