Thanksgiving is over, but why did we even bother making food in the first place? Brach's has us covered! In one bag of Candy Corn, they've provided an entire Turkey Dinner!
Despite my searching high and low for these here in Southern California, my brother had to ship me a bag from Colorado.
Who is ready to dig into this bountiful feast! There's 6 different flavors for us to try!
While wandering our local Dollar Tree, Ian happened to see a treat that we just had to try. It's a Pink Starburst Strawberry Sorbet bar! Starbursts are delicious.
Pink Starbursts are so good, they sell them by the bag with just that flavor. You don't see that with Orange, Cherry, or Lemon. Just Strawberry.
One of the staples of Thanksgiving dinner for us is Pumpkin Pie. Richard loves it, and this is really the only time of year that it's widely available.
But, Jelly Belly offers a jelly bean promising that Pumpkin Pie taste in one little bean. Let's see how they stack up.
My brother sent these to me (along with a few other special treats), and I knew I'd need to save them for Thanksgiving when we could taste them along with the real pumpkin pie. I see they've got a dollop of whipped cream on their packaging, so we'll add a little homemade whipped cream to ours too.
Happy Thanksgiving! It's 2020 and Covid cases are skyrocketing, so our normal Thanksgiving plans have changed. Normally we'd either be visiting a whole bunch of family or having a bunch of family visit us. This year, we'll have to stick to Zoom visits, but let's continue on with the day.
For our next Thanksgiving treat, we're trying a special limited edition release from Werther's Original. These are their Harvest Caramels.
They've come up with three different Harvest inspired flavors. Pumpkin Spice soft caramels, Cinnamon Crème soft caramels, and Caramel Apple soft caramels.
Sunday night means it's another chance to make pizza! I've made so many different pizzas this year, but I can hardly believe this one didn't get its own special night yet. It's ones of my favorites.
Love it or hate it, we're going to be making Hawaiian Pizza tonight!
Alli has been keeping her eye out for things that she could do for a taste test.
Alli - Daddy! I found a taste test! We can try all the Dots flavors!
You got it Alli!
She opened enough boxes to have at least one of each of the colors. Red (cherry), Green (lime), Orange (orange), Yellow (lemon), and Pink (strawberry).
Time for another Saturday Morning Cereal! This time it's an interesting one from Captain Crunch. We're going to be tasting Captain Crunch's Sprinkled Donut Crunch!
And of course to go with it, we're going to be having some real Celebration Confetti Cake Donuts.
It's time for another Kids' Taste Test! Ian and Alli are always on the lookout for something they can make a taste test out of. Sometimes they get some weird ideas in their heads, but other times it's right in line with our usual taste tests.
Today's taste test is a results of having one of those giant bags of mixed Halloween candy. They saw all the different Tootsie Roll Fruit Chews and deemed them to be taste test material.
Around the time of Ian's birthday, as we were walking around the stores while in the refrigerated section, Ian saw a whole bunch of flavors of Donald Duck juice.
Ian - I want to do a juice taste test for my birthday!
I think we can do something like that for you Ian.
And so we purchased all 8 flavors of Donald Duck juice that they had. Pink Lemonade, Lemonade, Grape, Orange Juice, Apple Juice, Tropical Punch, Fruit Punch, and Kiwi Strawberry.
Today we're getting to try the brand new Kelloggs Froot Loops Ice Pops! We saw them at the Dollar Tree and knew we'd have to try them.
The regular Froot Loops cereal has 6 colors, so I was a little disappointed to see only 4 colors represented here. The box shows red, purple, green, and orange. These pops are red, purple, and orange, but that green pop looks off. A little too much blue.
Tonight we continue our weekly Sunday pizzas at home. For this one, I was inspired by a pizza that BJ's pizza has since discontinued. A Cheeseburger Pizza! It was a little odd to be sure, but it was one of Theresa's favorite. Once BJ's stopped making it, we stopped going to BJ's! So tonight, in an effort to bring back that feel, I'm not exactly recreating BJ's Cheeseburger Pizza, but more being inspired by it and making something unique.
It's Fall so it's the season to be thinking about Apples. Around this time of year, we should be going to Apple Orchards and eating bunches of apples. That's not going to happen this year, but we can still do a little apple tasting. It's not quite going to be like last year when we tried 10 different kinds of apple, or 2018 when we had 7 different apples. For both of those taste tests, the favorite apple was Honey Crisp, so when Theresa saw this Honey Crisp apple juice, she knew we'd have to try it.
Honey Crisp Apple Juice and some Honey Crisp Apples to try along with them.
Alli made the special request to have it after dinner, so sure, why not. The pops are pretty little, but still it was $1 for 5 pops, so not a bad value. And I like the swirl of green and red.
Any time there's a new Kit Kat flavor, I'm excited to give it a try. This one is supposed to taste like Apple Pie! Grandpa loves Apple Pie so he's going to join us for this one.
And we're going to have a real apple pie to go along with it. It'll give us a real basis for comparison.
It's a National Pizza Day! Every Sunday since the beginning of June, I've been making a unique kind of pizza (24 by my count). Toppings and crusts have varied wildly, but there's one kind that I just haven't made.
Richard let me know that his favorite type of pizza is actually The Works. A pizza with green bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, olives, pepperoni, and instead of sausage, ham. Let's make it today for National Pizza with the Works except Anchovies Day!
I can hardly believe it. How could 7 years with this boy have passed already? He's grown up into an amazing and special boy. We've got a fun day planned.
Sometimes there's just not enough time to get all the taste tests in before Halloween. Today we're trying the special Halloween release Vampire Hershey's Kisses. Do they taste like garlic? Do they not have a reflection? Will they turn to dust if you take them out in the sun?
No, none of that. These kisses are filled with a bright red blood.
Happy Halloween! When it came time to pick costumes this year, the kids have had a few ideas, but they kept coming back to this one. They have loved watching Phineas and Ferb all summer, but the episode/movie they've liked the most has been Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension (2011). In particular, they love when Dr. Doofenshmirtz meets the 2nd Dimension Heinz Doofenshmirtz. That whole song and dance number has been requested endless times as their bedtime song.
So when they decided to go as Doctor D from both dimensions, I thought that would be pretty obscure, but fun for them. If this was a regular Halloween, Alli might get recognized, but Ian probably wouldn't. But this isn't a regular Halloween, this is a Covid Halloween where trick-or-treating door-to-door isn't happening, and they only people really seeing their costumes are us.
They thought it would be fun to sing their favorite song from the movie in costume too. I had them record their lines separately, then record another version of them dancing around a little, then pulled it all together into one video. I had them watch it to get their feedback and Ian's only complaint was "why do you have them (Both Dr. D's) singing too?"
Happy Halloween! Yes we're still stuck at home due to Covid, but we're still trying to figure out ways to have fun. We're missing Disneyland of course, but we can still figure out ways to incorporate it into our celebrations. For Easter, Disney has a big Easter Eggstravaganza where you're searching for eggs through the park. For Covid Easter, I brought the Disney Eggstravaganza home!
But what about Halloween? Pumpkin Duffy has got something lined up for us! It's the 2020 Mickey's not so scary Halloween Hunt!
Happy Saturday! We're celebrating our weekly pizza day just a little early because today is also Halloween! Last week I made Pumpkin pizzas with real Japanese pumpkin. Reviews were mixed, but that wasn't surprising. I think today's pizzas, everyone can get behind. These are regular pizzas, but they are pumpkin shaped!
Happy Halloween! We've got lots of fun things going on today. So many that I'm going to breaking it up across a few different posts. We'll start with Halloween decorations and our Halloween Pumpkins!
