It's almost May the Fourth, which is affectionately known as Star Wars Day. We're in Colorado, for reasons I'll get into in a later post, and we're celebrating with my brother Patrick, his wife, and their daughter.
Let's jump right into it!
I really like my recipe for pizza dough, that is fluffy and rises with yeast. I knew some of these pizzas would be fine to use that kind of crust. For others, where I wanted more control over the shape, I made a batch of thin crust pizza dough too.
Theresa is busy getting toppings prepped. That's a lot of black olives and bell peppers. I wonder who she could be getting ready to make.
Does the crust shape give it away?
It's an adorable BB8 pizza! I'd seen this one done a few different ways from others.
Megan and Patrick and big fans of bell peppers, so on top of the pizza sauce and under the cheese, there's a whole bunch of hidden diced bell peppers. On top are bell pepper rings, plus black olives, some red bell pepper, and sausage. Because many of these change shape/look after baking, I tried to get a before shot, prior to them going into the oven.
Now it's time for the next raised crust pizza. Know what it is?
The Millennium Falcon! There's the cockpit and front sensor dish too.
Hmm, who is this guy? We'll have to wait around and see.
Time to make some of the thin crust pizzas. I made a triple recipe, not exactly knowing how many it would end up making after all the trimming and shaping were finishing.
Here Patrick is cutting out a Chewbacca the Wookie shape.
Then he and Megan got to decorating it.
Adorable. Pepperoni strips and sausage represent his fur.
I wanted to make this Darth Maul pizza for a couple reasons. First because he's a fun character. Second because I knew that Alli loves sauce pizza without any cheese. I asked if olives would be okay and she enthusiastically said yes!
I asked if this was a Yoda pizza or a Grogu pizza (The Child from The Mandalorian). I was those that this was definitely a Yoda pizza. The Child is cute, and Megan doesn't think this pizza is going to look particularly cute when she's done with it. She put down a base of pesto, then mixed mozzarella cheese with pesto to keep it green on top. Then there's random sausage in the ears and some whisps of parmesan hair.
No sauce, light cheese, and black olives for the toppings? Must be a Theresa pizza.
She's making Darth Vader, though the kids call him "Dark Vader" to this day.
The 550F oven was in constant rotation, while these pizzas baked.
Great Darth Vader Theresa!
Megan and Patrick, I love your Chewbacca Pizza!
It's Yoda!
As expected, my Millennium Falcon got a little puffy. Per Megan's suggestion, I made this a Meat Lovers Millennium Falcon, with pepperoni, bacon, and sausage.
The BB-8 pizza got a little more cooked than I was hoping. I wanted the white mozzarella cheese to stay more white, and not get so toasty, but what can you do?
Nailed it!
Well, I tried. They're not all going to be winners.
With the little bits of thin crust dough scraps that I had left, I decided to make one more pizza. This time, it's the Death Star 2, the unfinished Death Star from Episode 6 - Return of the Jedi.
And what about that last pizza? Oh, that's Anakin Skywalker after his unfortunate battle with Obi-Wan on the lava planet of Mustafar. He attacked Obi-Wan, even though he didn't have the high ground, and would wind up getting his limbs cut off. I left him in the oven throughout all the different pizzas being baked and he turned out just like I was hoping. A little pizza sauce for the lava and on the end of his limbs, and it's perfect!
It was a little painful to slice into these masterpieces.
Sorry Chewie.
Oh, and there goes the top of BB-8's head.
We dined separately to maintain social distancing. While we ate, Megan played music from Star Wars. John Williams is awesome!
Ian loved the Chewbacca thin crust pizza with all the pepperonis.
OH MY!!!...such CREATIVE Star Wars pizzas...love all the ideas and their execution...thumbs UP to everyone! So neat to see everyone put their special spin and taste preferences on the pizzas. Wonderful Pizza Sunday idea! May the Fourth be with you all! EOM
ReplyDeleteWhen we were trying to decide what to do, there was just idea after idea. And then we were trying to think how to theme it to the different characters. Meat Lovers Millennium Falcon was the only one that survived. Others that didn't make the cut were Goat Cheese Grogu, BBQ BB-8, and Domenico's Death Star (ground pepperoni).
