Pizza at Home - Halloween Chocolate Candy and Fruity Candy Pizza

Happy Halloween! This year Halloween falls on Sunday and Sundays around here are pizza day! When Ian heard that, he told me he wanted to make a candy pizza for Halloween! I don't know how good that will be, but he's excited for it, so let's go for it!

We've recently done a Chocolate Candy Bar taste test (coming soon) and have our choices of 20 different chocolate bar pieces to top it with! Theresa got to work cutting up all the bars.

I made a couple pizza doughs and pre-baked the crusts. These toppings will get a little heat, but they don't need to cook.
I thought Theresa had cut up too many chocolates, but the kids ended up putting every single piece onto the pizza.

In my mind, I was thinking we'd just do a chocolate candy pizza, but Ian wanted to have a fruity pizza as well. They dug through their candy bins and found a few things that qualified.

Oh my. These kids are ready to go out trick-or-treating. Dinner first though!

These are just about ready to go into the oven.
For the chocolate pizza there's a whole bunch of different toppings. Rolo, Kit Kat, Whatchamacallit, Butterfinger, Snickers, 3 Musketeers, Baby Ruth, regular M&M, Peanut M&M, Peanut Butter M&M, Hershey's, Hershey's with Almonds, Crunch, Reese's, Twix, Almond Joy, and Milky Way. Whew!

The Fruity pizza has large Smarties, Pez, gummy worms, Starburst, Airheads, Mambas, and Skittles. It looked like they were making a design, so I asked what it was.
Alli - It's a flower. The yellow Skittles bees are trying to get to the center of the flower to get the pollen.
Makes sense to me.

Because I didn't think we'd want a candy pizza for dinner, I also made a couple other pizzas. Pepperoni and breadsticks for the kids. For Theresa and I, smoked aged meats, fresh sliced tomatoes, garlic, and sharp cheddar. Theresa went with Cambazola cheese on her side, while I went with goat cheese.

These pizzas were delicious! I loved the strong flavors of the garlic and goat cheese.

As we finished up the regular pizzas, I tossed the dessert pizzas in the oven to get a little heat.
Theresa mentioned that the smell coming from the oven was sickeningly sweet.

All smiles. They're happy to take over pizza day on Halloween.

The chocolate pizza melted down like I expected. The M&Ms all cracked with the heat. It's a crazy amount of different toppings.

The fruity candy pizza toppings all just melted in place, turning into little piles of goo. The pressed candies, like the Smarties and Pez have dried out and started to crumble.

It was a bit of a sticky situation cutting them with the pizza wheel. The Mambas, Starbursts, and Airheads, stuck to the cutter.

A look at my plate tonight. That's... interesting.

We're going to start with the fruity candy pizza.

They get a thumbs up from the kids. They thought the chewy candies were good on a pizza.

Next it's time for the chocolate pizza.

These ones get an even bigger thumbs up.

Theresa refused to taste the Fruity Candy Pizza.
Theresa - Sometimes you know something isn't going to be good and don't have to put it in your mouth.
I thought it tasted pretty much like you'd expect. Hard crunchy candies mixed with some chewy candies, all on warm bread. Not bad, but definitely nothing normal.
The Chocolate Candy pizza was a bit more tasty. There's so many different flavors go on here. Chocolate, peanut butter, caramel, and peanuts. I'm glad Theresa decided to skip the York Peppermint Patties.

Alli started picking the candies off the pizza and eating them individually.

In the end, the kids really just wanted a taste of their candy pizzas. No one wanted to eat more than 1 slice. There were quite a few leftovers.

  1. Have to admit the candy pizzas were very unique, especially the fruity one. The fruity one had lots of color in its favor. But taste-wise, I think I'll have to stick with tasting the chocolate one since I'm not a big fruit candy eater. Creative Halloween candy pizzas, Ian & Alli! EOM
