Pizza at Home - Thin Crust Pizza in an RV

Happy Sunday! It's another day to enjoy pizza!

Since everyone likes it so much, there's one thing I really want to crack. Thin Crust Pizza. The whole family, except me, loves thin crust pizza. I got some pizza stones for my oven for Christmas, but I still need to figure out a way to get crispy crust out of them. Let's give it a shot today.

The first is the dough. I'm happy with my recipe. The only change I like to make is using hot water to bring everything together.

With no stand mixer, I can only hand knead the dough, but that seems to work just fine.

That's not a lot of dough for 4 pizzas, but that's thin crust pizza for you.

Once I rolled the dough super flat between two sheets of parchment, Theresa helped me get them sauced and topped.

New to the RV, and adding some much appreciated greenery, is a Sweet Basil plant! Fresh basil is delicious, especially on pizza, so this plant is going to see a bit of action every Sunday. I only hope it can keep up.

Theresa is going to be making a margherita pizza with fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil.

Mine is a mix of meats, tomatoes, pineapples, and fresh garlic.

Theresa's cooked up beautifully.
I heated the oven with the stones up for at least an hour at 480 to make sure the ceramic heated up fully.
These pizzas are too thin to slide in using my pizza peel, so I always resort to parchment underneath to slide them in. The other trick is to get them off that parchment and directly onto the stone as soon as possible to give them direct contact with the hot surface.

A little drizzle of balsamic to finish it off. A balsamic glaze would be even better. Maybe next time.

Mine may be a thin crust, but I didn't skimp on the toppings.

So is it thin? Yes, it's thin. And it's stiff enough to hold a flat surface.

But is it crispy?
Yes! It's got a crispy crust all the way to the center this time! The outside edges are more crunchy, like a cracker, but even Ian didn't seem to mind that, seeing as how he ate his crusts too.
It may not be my favorite, but I'm glad I can at least make a decent thin crust pizza now.

  1. Success in creating the thin crust pizza in the RV!!!...way to go!!! Everyone got to create a favorite pizza top to enjoy the equally favorite thin crust base. Everything looks good again on Pizza Sunday! Having that Sweet Basil Plant is perfect greenery to have around...adds color to the surroundings while serving the purpose of flavoring foods...can't ask for more :-) EOM
