To round out our week of strawberry things we're trying something quite unique! Your eyes do not deceive you. These strawberries have lost their color!
These are Pink-A-Boo Pineberries from Wish Farms in Plant City.
Interesting. The flavor is much more mild than a regular strawberry. They have less acid than a regular strawberry, so that strawberry flavor you expect isn't as bold.
Theresa - I prefer the regular one. I want it to knock me back with its deliciousness.
It's not just the flavor, but the texture also. They are a bit softer than a regular strawberry.
Donald - It's a different texture. Like a gel, along with a more mild flavor.
Austin - I like this a lot.
A side-by-side look at the two berries.
And the insides of both berries. They Pink-A-Boo Pineberries are a creamy white throughout, while the regular strawberry stays red.
Donald wanted to try a blind taste test between the two. He closed his eyes and Alli picked a berry to give him.
And he was able to correctly identify which berry was which.
The Pink-A-Boo Pineberries were more of a novelty than anything else. I personally prefer the flavor of a red ripe strawberry to them. They are also a bit more expensive than regular strawberries.
Regular strawberries, in season, are $2-$3 per pound.
Interesting pineberries (never heard of them)...texture sounds more "gel-like" when compared to a red strawberry...coloring is unusual, seeing the pale pink and the dark red seeds on them (definitely makes the seeds stand out). Like Theresa's comment on the regular strawberry, "I want it to knock me back with its deliciousness!" Looks like Austin enjoyed the pinkberries, though. Still a fun taste test! EOM
