Every Steak 'n Shake Milkshake Flavor taste test! 17 different flavors!

It's summertime and it's probably hot where you are right now. Today we've got a really fun taste test! It's one I've had in mind for a little while. 

I love milkshakes and there's one fast food place that is super well known for making the best milkshakes in the industry. Steak 'n Shake! 

Steak 'n Shake has 17 different milkshake flavors on its regular menu and today we're going to try them all! 

About a year ago, in June 2021, family friends Joe and Julie Wilson became Franchise Partners with Steak 'n Shake and opened a new store in Woodhaven Michigan!

Locally owned and operated! 

I gave Joe a heads up a few days beforehand about my milkshake taste test idea and he thought it sounded great! I was happy to see him there when we showed up! 

Alrighty then. We'll take one of every milkshake on the menu!

I've been asked before whether any of the many taste tests we do are sponsored, or if I pay for all the things we try. Well, much to Theresa's dismay, I buy all the things we test. Today is no exception, though I am taking advantage of the half-price Happy Hour deals. We'll order food when we're all done. 

That's quite the list buddy. A whole bunch of different milkshakes!

In no specific order, here's all the different flavors that are on the Steak 'n Shake milkshake menu in May 2022. 

Joe asked if I'd like our milkshakes in paper cups or glass. Totally glass!

Yum! This is going to be awesome!

I know right? Amazing! Isn't it!

Rita - Look at all those shakes! That's crazy! 

With this many milkshakes to try, I invited the whole family to come sample all these with us. How can a dozen people try all the same milkshakes? Each shake got a spoon and everyone gets their own mini cup. Scoop a bit into your mini cup and take a drink. 

We'll be starting first with the three classic flavors you would expect to find everywhere that sells milkshakes. 

Classic Chocolate - Irresistible, thick, hand-dipped chocolate milkshake.

Ethan - Mmm. I like the chocolate. 

Austin - The chocolate is my favorite. 

Joe - Does it have like a Hershey chocolate flavor, or...

Austin - I don't know. I just like it. You can't go wrong with a chocolate milkshake. 

Classic Vanilla - Classic homemade vanilla milkshake.

Joe - Vanilla tastes like classic vanilla. Like "church potluck someone brought homemade ice cream" vanilla. Yum! 

Ian - Vanilla is really good! 

Theresa - Vanilla is just vanilla. 

Classic Strawberry - A cool, satisfying, classic shake full of strawberry flavor.

Joe - Mmm. I like the strawberry!

Ethan - Oh yeah, me too. 

Austin - I like the strawberry a lot!
Ian - Strawberry is good!

Theresa - I'm not a big Strawberry person. 

Chi - Chocolate and Strawberry are the best. 

Austin - This is definitely one of the best taste test ideas you've had. 

Classic Banana - Enjoy all the banana goodness in this thick and delicious milkshake.

Austin - Classic Banana? 

Ethan - The first part of the banana flavor tastes like the Runts candy. 

Ian - That is very pure banana. 

Joe - Whoa Ethan, you're not kidding. That is a Banana Runts flavored milkshake. Wow. 

Theresa - I don't like the Runt Candy. (tastes it) Eww. Banana is disgusting. 

Amy - I do not like Banana. 

Tyler - It's artificial. Maybe a little too artificial on its own, but try it with the strawberry and it's great.

I hope we don't get tired of milkshakes after this. Not like the Reese's Peanut Butter taste test we did. So many people got burnt out on Reese's after that. Don and Austin said they skipped them for half a year. Theresa still doesn't like them like she used to. 

Birthday Cake - Yellow birthday cake and sweet buttercream frosting topped with festive sprinkles.

Ian - Delicious!

Austin - Birthday Cake I actually just got a piece of cake! 

Ethan - It tastes just like birthday cake flavor. 

Theresa - Oh. Birthday Cake is just so sweet! Oh my goodness. It tastes like I'm eating icing. 

Donald - I just got a big chunk of birthday cake too!

Tyler - It definitely tastes like cake, but I would not want a whole shake of it. 

Aubrey - I don't like it as much as I thought I would. 

Cotton Candy - Made with our delicious ice cream and blended with cotton candy syrup it is of course topped with whipped cream and a cherry

Ethan - Why did I ever like that as a kid? It tastes like melted cotton candy. 

Joe - Wow, look at the color of this cotton candy! 

Ian - Cotton Candy for the win! That's delicious. Cotton Candy is really good. My favorite so far is cotton candy. 

Theresa - It's good Ian? 

Ian - Yes!

Theresa - (tastes it) Eww! Cotton Candy is disgusting! Why did I even put that in my mouth?

Ian - What?!?

Austin - It tastes like fake ice cream. 

Theresa - Fake is not good. 

Alli - The Cotton Candy is horrible!

Someone has found a favorite. 

Nutella - Our delicious homemade milkshake blended with rich, creamy Nutella® hazelnut spread.

Ethan - I really thought it would be better. 

Ian - This one actually just isn't that good. It really disappointed me. 

Theresa - That just tastes weird. I don't like Nutella. 

Amy - Nutella is one of my favorites. 

Austin - I like Nutella if I'm not having all these other flavors. Otherwise it tastes super bland. 

Donald - It's not doing it for me today. 

Theresa - I'm going to guess that this is a first for many of you, trying seventeen milkshakes in one day. 

Butterfinger - Chunky pieces of Nestle® Butterfinger® candy blended in our homemade milkshake.

Ethan - Oh yeah. Butterfinger is good. 

Theresa - Butterfinger is always good. 

Ethan - That's my favorite so far. 

Alli - I like that one. That's my favorite too. 

I love tasting all the different things. Otherwise how else will you know? And why not taste them all at once with lots of friends and family and make it a whole experience!

Kit Kat - Homemade milkshake blended with crunchy, chocolatey Kit Kat® pieces.

Ethan - The Kit Kat needs to have more Kit Kat flavor. 

Joe - What is Kit Kat flavor though? The wafers themselves are pretty bland. It's mostly just chocolate flavor on a Kit Kat. 

Ethan - I feel like the Butterfinger shake really tasted like a Butterfinger, but the Kit Kat shake didn't taste like a Kit Kat. 

Ian - What would you do, what would you do, for a Kit Kat Bar?

Let's hope all this ice cream doesn't ruin your appetite for dinner. 

M&Ms - Our classic vanilla milkshake blended with plenty of milk chocolate M&M's®.

Rita - M&M. Nah. 

Theresa - Wow. The M&M one just tastes like super sweet. The ice cream itself. 

Ethan - The M&M just tasted like vanilla with M&M pieces in it. Or maybe that's just what it really is. 

Ian - Yum! M&Ms!

OREO Mint - A blast of cool mint with OREO® cookie pieces.

Rita - I don't like the mint one. I need a new cup. This one is going to taste like mint. 

Theresa - Oh no. It doesn't taste that minty to me. I don't really like this one. 

Ethan - I think it's good. Mint Oreo and Butterfinger are top two right now. 

Donald - I'm not a mint guy. 

Theresa - I wanted to like this one, but I don't. 

Tyler - This is the one I usually get if I'm ordering one. 

Aubrey - For some reason I like the Mint Oreo today. Normally I don't. 

Snickers - Chunky pieces of Snickers® candy blended in our homemade milkshake.

Rita - Aww, I don't really like the Snickers one. 

Theresa - I don't really taste the Snickers though. 

Ethan - Snickers is pretty good. 

Amy - I like the Snickers. 

Alli - Mmm! I like Snickers too!

Theresa - These next few are all Reese's. 

Rita - That is a lot of peanut butter. 

Reese's Peanut Butter - Smooth, creamy peanut butter blended into our homemade milkshake.

Rita - Hmm. It does taste like the peanut butter. It's just okay. 

Theresa - Reese's Peanut Butter Cup is kind of mild compared to the Reese's Chocolate Peanut Butter one. 

Ethan - Reese's Peanut Butter was actually really good. 

Joe - The Peanut Butter is kind of plain. It's salty. I want something else in it. 

Rita - I am making a mess. 

Reese's Peanut Butter Cup - Chunks of Reese’s® Peanut Butter Cups combined with our homemade milkshake.

Theresa - The Reese's Peanut Butter Cup one is mild too. 

Ethan - I liked the Reese's Peanut Butter better than the Peanut Butter cups because it tasted a lot more peanut buttery. 

Donald - They need to put the peanut butter cups into the Peanut Butter shake. That peanut butter base shake with peanut butter cups would be amazing. 

Reese's Chocolate Peanut Butter - Smooth, creamy peanut butter and plenty of chocolate syrup. 

Rita - Ooh, that's good. That's pretty yummy. Rich though. You couldn't drink a whole shake of that. 

Theresa - Someone could. (tastes it) Whoa! That is so rich! Like drinking a peanut butter cup!

Richard - I like this one best so far of all the Reese's flavors. 

Austin - It tastes like a Texas Roadhouse Peanut.

Ethan - That Reese's Chocolate Peanut Butter is good. 

Richard - I was surprised. Normally I order a regular chocolate, but I really like the Chocolate Peanut Butter best. 

Theresa - I am liking all the premium shakes more than the classic shakes. I like this lower half of the table best. I've retried like 10 of them. I like chunks in my shakes versus just syrups. 

Aubrey - I don't like "things" really in my shake. 

Theresa - I'm the opposite of you. 

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough - Chunks of chocolate chip cookie dough blended in our thick homemade milkshake.

Theresa - Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is not my favorite. 

Austin - Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough doesn't taste like anything. 

Ethan - I'm not a big fan of Cookie Dough. 

OREO Cookies 'n Cream - Homemade vanilla milkshake with Chunky OREO® cookie pieces.

Theresa - OREO Cookies 'n Cream is super sweet!

Rita - I can taste the cookies though. 

Austin - It taste more like the Oreo creme to me. 

Donald - Mmm. Cookies and Cream is a favorite. I love Cookies and Cream. 

Alli was a little late to the party, having been out with Aubrey having a fun day together and getting her nails done. 

Amy - Can we go back and try more? 

Absolutely! We're going to have so many shakes left over. 

Theresa - You can see which ones people like more. Some of these have a whole lot left. 

Alli went through and caught up. 

Once everyone had tried all of them, it was time to vote for our favorites. Out of 17 flavors, there are sure to be lots of different opinions. 

But will there be some that stand out above the others? The votes are in! 

Using a point scoring system where First Place gets 3 points, Second gets 2 points, and Third gets 1 point, here is the final tally. 

Coming in first place overall, the winner of the 17 milkshake challenge is...

Classic Chocolate! More than half the people voting had it in their top 3. 

Next up, and very close behind, taking 2nd place was Butterfinger. 

Reese's Chocolate Peanut Butter was 3rd, followed by Oreo Mint (4th), Reese's Peanut Butter Cup (5th), Reese's Peanut Butter (6th), Classic Strawberry (7th), Snickers (8th). 

Only 3 milkshake flavors didn't receive a single vote. Birthday Cake, M&M, and Cookie Dough. 

All these milkshakes and all these people trying them made a little bit of a mess on the table. We made sure to help out and clean as best we could. 

Then used the cart to take back our glasses. 

Alright! Let's order some food! Who wants a milkshake? (Funnily enough Aubrey ordered one. She and Alli arrived late, and many of the shakes were melty, and she wanted something frozen).
