We're visiting Washington State and we're lucky enough to have my entire family here too!
I'm always soliciting ideas for what my weekly pizza should be. I was riding in a car with my dad, brother, and sister-in-law Megan when inspiration struck her. She almost sucked all the air out of the car as she had her realization.
Megan - GASP! You have to make a coffee pizza!
Brilliant! Seattle Washington is regarded as the "World Center for Coffee Roasting". Starbucks originated from here! Megan is a coffee fanatic.
Megan - Let me see what I can come up with.
Go for it!
She pulled a few shots of espresso and put it onto the stove to further reduce.
Along with that, she added a little sugar and corn starch to thicken it.
Once the coffee infused pizza crust had baked and cooled, it was time to add the topping.
Megan - It's almost like a coffee gravy.
And giving it a taste, it was so much better than the coffee glaze I had before.
Right before it was time to assemble, Megan whipped up a batch of homemade whipped cream.
Spreading the whipped cream across the top, similar to what it would look like floating on the top of a cup of coffee.
If this is going to be a caramel latte pizza we're going to need some caramel. Why buy it when we can make it ourself? I mixed butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup in a pan.
Once that came to a boil and boiled for 2 minutes, I added a bit of baking soda. It foamed up a bit, and then I let it cool down.
Time for the perfect drizzle across the top. Pretty!
Emma - What are you going to do with the rest of it?
Enjoy!
Ooh, she was excited!
This was a completely made up experiment so I'm curious how this is going to taste.
With 15 people in the house, I had to cut it into sixteenths!
Looks so fancy!
And how is it?
It's a delicious dessert pizza! I can totally taste the coffee! And I don't know about you, but I'm not a purist. I love cream and sugar! This pizza has a great balance for me. It's not just a bitter coffee flavor, but sweet and creamy as well.
There's lots of coffee lovers in this family, even the kids.
My kids think they like coffee, but really it's just the cream and sugar.
The adults especially thought the pizza was tasty. I've made quite a few delicious dessert pizzas, including chocolate pizza, PB&J pizza, Peanut Butter/Banana/Honey pizza, Apple Pie Pizza, S'mores Pizza, Strawberry Cheesecake, Blueberry Pizza, Fluffernutter Pizza, Cookie Pizza, Halloween Chocolate and Candy Pizza, and 4th of July Berry Pizza! Now I can add Coffee Pizza to the list!
Emma was especially sweet, always wanting to taste the ingredients as we made them, and also loving the finished pizza, making sure there were no leftovers.
Wow...what an experimental Coffee-Caramel Latte pizza! Such an inspirational idea from Megan and then to be able to bring it to fruition...wonderful job! That pizza does sounds like a delicious dessert pizza...even the kids enjoyed the coffee-flavoring (plus cream and sugar :-) ) Emma does like her fresh caramel! What a creation for pizza Sunday. EOM
