It's time to start getting into the Holiday Baking Spirit! Let's start with something a little different!
Some said it couldn't be done. Others said it shouldn't be done. Who are "they"? I don't know, I'm just making it up, but it sounds good. On Sunday morning I wanted to try making something me and my Sister-In-Law were talking about earlier in the year, in preparation for Christmas. A Cinnamon Roll with Bacon!
It starts with a lot of bacon that I diced. Thick cut.
I cooked it up in a pan with a little water to get everything cooking at the right speed. After a few minutes, I had some tasty bacon bits that I had to work to keep away from the kids.
Next comes the cinnamon roll dough. I made it from scratch and rolled it out flat.
Then topped it with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and my cooked bacon pieces.
I cut disks and set them aside to rise.
Forty minutes later the yeast in the dough has done its job and these are ready to bake!
While that's going, me and my kitchen helper need to make our cream cheese frosting!
And of course the beaters need to be licked.
Coming out of the oven, these look great!
Add our cream cheese frosting.
Then top it with leftover bacon bits.
Mmm. Look at that delicious gooeyness.
But the taste. What about the taste? Does bacon belong inside a cinnamon roll?
Absolutely! You already know that salty, savory, and sweet go really well together. Add in that creamy frosting and hints of cinnamon and you've got a delicious treat!
And the kids thought they were pretty amazing too!
Ian picked all his bacon bits off his and ate them, then had the audacity to ask for more! Rascal!
Picking off the bacon bits reminded me of when Ian also picked out the marshmallow bits from the cereal for later...but can't save tasty crispy bacon bits for later...only solution is eat them right away and ask for more :-) ! What an unusual idea of combining bacon bits into a cinnamon roll...sounds like a great idea for any bacon lover, and double-yummy if the bacon lover enjoys cinnamon rolls (now who doesn't like homemade cinnamon rolls?) What a creation with lots of deliciousness in every bite! EOM
