Chocolate Frosted Donut KitKat taste test comparison

Happy Sunday! Weekends are perfect for donuts, and so today, we have a Chocolate Donut taste test! 

What confection has dared to try to live up to the perfection that is the Chocolate Donut? Looks like KitKat is going to give it a try! 

To taste alongside this Chocolate Frosted Donut KitKat, we've got to find a really good donut. One of my favorites is Krispy Kreme (thank you Amy and Donald for sharing for this taste test). These light and airy donuts are already amazing, but heat them in the microwave for a few seconds and they are phenomenal. 

We know KitKat can make some pretty amazing flavors. We've done a taste test where we tried 28 different Kit Kat flavors from all over Japan. 

And I'm still sitting on a taste test that I need to write up where we tried 46 unique KitKat flavors! (photo from 2021)

Produced in the US by Hershey. Nothing too special about the back of the bar. 

Opening it up, I was a little disappointed to see that this bar appears to have been overheated at some point. The top looks a little smooshed. Thankfully it will still taste the same, but I'll have to be more mindful of picking my chocolate bars in the future. 

The Kit Kat bar itself is made of two distinctive layers. The bottom pieces obviously represents the donut, while the top is the chocolate frosting. I wonder if they'll taste different. 

Nothing too interesting happening on the inside that I could tell.

Theresa - We should try the KitKat first. 

Ian - It smells like Cake Batter. 

Joe - I smell fake bakery smell. . 

Jacob - It smells like a wax candle that's like "Home Baked Cookies".

Theresa - It does smell like a candle!

 Let's taste them! 

Jacob - It actually tastes pretty good. 

Ian - It tastes like their cake batter. 

Joe - It tastes better than it smells. 

Theresa - I don't like it. 

Joe - I'm getting kindof a donut flavor. I don't know if I'm tasting it in the creme or the chocolate. 

Ian - I'm tasting pure sugar. 

Theresa - I don't care for that. It doesn't taste like a donut to me. It's not a Krispy Kreme donut right? It's not partnered with them. 

Joe - It's not. Not like the Krispy Kreme Jelly Belly jelly beans we tried. 

Jacob - You need to separate one and try each by themselves. 

I did my best, even scraping off the little bit of chocolate you see above, to get the layers apart. 

Ian - The bottom is where the sweet comes from. It's not the top. 

Joe - The top tastes chocolatey. We've got two different flavors. 

Ian - I could eat that. 

Jacob - It's good. It's sugar. 

Theresa - I've never liked chocolate covered donuts. 

Joe - NEVER?!? REALLY?!? Maple donuts are superior, but chocolate is also good. 

After a few seconds in the microwave for encouragement, these are ready to eat. 

Theresa - I need mine cut into eighths. 

Jacob - Delicious!

Joe - Yep, that's pretty good. The chocolate is a bit darker. The KitKat has more of a milk chocolate. The Krispy Kreme donut chocolate is a little more bitter. A little more strong. 

Ian - Just give me a plain glazed donut. 

Theresa - They should make a KitKat Krispy Kreme Donut flavor. Not Chocolate. 

Alli - Can I have another one? 

Jacob - Clearly the one with sprinkles is going to be better. 

Ian - With the sprinkles it tastes ever so slightly better. 

Jacob - Obviously. 

So KitKat, it's always going to be difficult to beat something as tasty as a Chocolate Covered Donut. The Chocolate Frosted Donut Kit Kat was good, but I don't think it can compare to a delicious Krispy Kreme donut.
