It's Summer-Time and it's the year of the Summer Olympics! We love watching all the different Olympics sports and we cheer loud when we see the Red White and Blue of the United States! Our favorites are Beach Volleyball, Gymnastics, but we've found some new interesting sports too, like Bouldering and Speed Climbing!
Also this summer, right around July 4th, Mountain Dew came out with 3 new flavors that are colored Red, White, and Blue. Sounds like something any red-blooded American should be drinking while watching the Olympics to me!
Star Spangled Splash, Freedom Fusion, and Liberty Chill.
I asked the kids to get dressed up, and they both put on their Olympics jerseys from their gymnastics. Alli went above and beyond, coordinating her socks as well!
Our first flavor we'll try today is the Red Star Spangled Splash. Star Spangled Splash is flavored with Red Berry and other natural flavors.
I love that the labels are themed as well!
Star Spangled Splash has Red, White, and Blue Fireworks and stars. One firework even has a blue mohawk!
Joe - I've only known Red Berry flavor in Sour Patch Kids.
Alli - Me too.
Joe - I hope it's not fruit punchy.
Alli - It smells like strawberry. I get a little strawberry off the front, but other than that, no.
Ian - Me too.
Theresa - It's got a medicinal taste at the end. I don't like it.
Joe - I don't know if it's cherry or strawberry.
Ian - It's both!
Theresa - No likey.
Theresa - Ooh! That smells nice!
Joe - Peach Mountain Dew could be good, right?
Ian - It's good!
Alli - Now that is a good Mountain Dew! That's probably the best Mountain Dew I've tasted!
Theresa - That might be favorite, besides regular Mountain Dew Zero.
Alli - I really like it!
Joe - I taste the peach a lot. I don't taste lemonade as much.
Theresa - I don't taste it at all.
Ian - It's good.
Theresa - Like a Peach Fizz. I like that one best!
Joe - BUT! YOU HAVEN'T TRIED LIBERTY CHILL YET WITH ITS 50 FLAVORS IN ONE DEW!
Finally for Blue, we have Liberty Chill. Liberty Chill has 50 Flavors in one DEW! It's obviously a tribute to the 50 United States.
On the label we can see that the Statue of Liberty has hung up her crown and tossed her torch in favored of riding a motorcycle down the streets of Washington DC. I think that's the Washington Monument in the background.
Joe - 50 flavors in one DEW.
Ian - This sounds so good.
Alli - Okay, I like that. I like that a lot.
Joe - But what flavor is it?
Alli - I don't know. Blue Raspberry maybe?
Joe - Is that just because it's blue?
Ian - smack, smack, smack.
Theresa - No, that also has a medicine taste on the back end. But I think there's blue raspberry in there.
Ian - I know that flavor. What is it?
Joe - It's candy.
Ian - Yeah, some kind of candy.
Alli - A raspberry something.
Ian - It's some sort of candy and I know it.
So what are the favorites in order?
Alli - White, Blue, then Red.
Ian - Blue, Red, then White.
Joe - White, Blue, then Red.
Theresa - Only liked Freedom Fusion (White)
Looks like Freedom Fusion, with 3 first place votes is going to take the Gold for us!
Ian - It's a taste of America!
Joe - Peach still comes through quite a bit in all those. It's a dominant flavor.
"It's a taste of America!"...that's a fitting title for the 3 flavors together!! Alli & Ian donned their patriotic best to match the spirit of the patriotic labels on the bottles...that's the spirit! :-) The blue mohawk and the bald eagle w/ the aviator hat & goggles were cute ideas...like the splashy drink names, too. Looks like Freedom Fusion is the overwhelming winner in this taste test. EOM
