It's nearly Halloween which means there's all sorts of new treats coming around for the season. We already tried Mountain Dew VooDEW and today, another classic brand that we like to try has brought out a special flavor just for the season.
Introducing KitKat Ghost Toast!
According to the packaging, these are Crisp Wafers in a Cinnamon Toast flavored Creme.
Gotcha. Well, if we're going to try these, we must have some cinnamon toast to go along with it! I was just planning to make buttered toast with cinnamon sugar on it, but Jacob mentioned that it was a Cinnamon Toast Creme. Because of that, he grabbed some Cream Cheese frosting too!
I like the packaging for the KitKat this year. It's a cute little winking ghost.
And was ghost toast ever a thing before this? I'm seeing recipes for toast with butter and egg whites (the ghost part).
I wonder sometimes why companies don't put their specific flavor ingredients on the back, and instead just wrap it all up in "natural and artificial flavors".
After the toasted bread came out of the oven, T and I got to work getting it buttered and frosted. Toast is always best hot.
T's buttery toast with Jacob's Cinnamon Sugar. This is a combination of cinnamon powder and granulated sugar. The sugar crystals are what you'd expect with table sugar, so a little crunchy and crystally.
The cream cheese frosting I spread over the hot toast just melted into the bread. I am using Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cinnadust to top it. Dust is a better word for it. It's got much finer particles of cinnamon and sugar than the other Cinnamon Sugar.
What should we try first? The hot bread of course!
The kids started right in on the toast with cream cheese frosting on top.
Joe - Ian, with the frosting, does this make it cake-toast? (a reference to a joke from the Epcot ride Guardians of the Galaxy).
Ian - Sort of.
Theresa - Going for the toast first is a mistake, because the KitKats won't be as good as the toast.
Alli - That's pretty good.
Theresa - It needs more cream cheese frosting and Cinnadust.
Jacob - It's better to flip it over and have the frosting hit your tongue first.
And next, we'll definitely be trying the hot buttered bread with cinnamon sugar.
Jacob - Still good. But the cream cheese makes it a little sweeter.
Theresa - We should do fairy bread.
Joe - With sprinkles?
Alli - Yeah! With sprinkles!
Theresa - You're right Ian. There can never be too much cinnamon sugar.
Jacob - I remember making cinnamon sugar toast as a kid, and you'd pick it up and it would just slide off, there'd be so much sugar.
Theresa - Who put it on?
Jacob - Us kids... Mom would make her own and let us kids make ours.
Theresa - Oh!
Ian - Eww!
Joe - Is it like frostingly sweet?
Jacob - I just smell vanilla.
Alli - It does smell like the frosting.
Joe - I smell like... cupcake frosting. It's got a bakery smell to it too. Maybe that's the "toast" flavor they're trying to get in there.
Theresa - If you asked me to name what this KitKat was, I would say Birthday Cake. I wouldn't call it Cinnamon.
Joe - Does anyone taste any cinnamon?
No.
Jacob - (trying it again) I smell a hint of cinnamon. Not much. It's so mostly vanilla. Maybe it's essence of Cinnamon Toast, cause it's a ghost.
Theresa - A ghost who ate a vanilla cupcake.
Joe - It's the memory of cinnamon.
Theresa - The vanilla overpowers everything.
I think everyone's complaint about the cream cheese toast was that there wasn't enough frosting on it. Now that it's cooled down a bit and won't melt completely through it, I can add a bit more.
Theresa - If you're trying to get the same ratio of crispness to creme, you're going to need even more. And more Cinnamon Dust.
Joe - This doesn't taste like cupcakes.
Theresa - This is just a delivery system for frosting.
Alli - I'm probably not going to be able to go to bed.
Ian - Frosting!
Jacob - I wouldn't turn down the KitKats.
Theresa - No more dessert tonight!
"Just a delivery system for frosting!" :-)...think the toast + cream cheese frosting + Cinnadust = sweet & delicious dessert! Think the KitKat Ghost Toast was no match against the cream cheese combo. Looks like a new toast dessert has been born! EOM
