It's the time of the year for lots of tasty holiday treats! Grandma's spiced tea, gingerbread, and Christmas cookies!
This year, Reese's has got a new offering, filling their beloved peanut butter cups with sugar cookie bits!
The kids love helping out in the kitchen. They weighed and measured out all the ingredients.
And blended everything together to form a nice cookie dough.
And after 2 hours chilling in the fridge, it was time to roll out the cookies and cut fun shapes!
And just a few minutes later, our first cookies are out of the oven!
After dialing in the proper time for our oven, they started coming out just on the edge of golden brown. Plain sugar cookies don't have much flavor, but if you brush them with butter and then lay them onto colored sugar, you can get some pretty designs plus a better taste and texture! I love the extra crunch the layer of sugar crystals gives it.
Moving over to the Reese's Sugar Cookie, they say that we can Have Your Cookie and Reese's Cup Too! I'm sure all their cookies were decorated to look like reindeer before going into the Reese's cups.
The wrappers are blue with orange snowflakes.
Cutting one open I see that the sugar cookie bits seem to be little round balls, and they appear to have sunk to the bottom of the Reese's cup.
What should we start with? Reese's Cups? Sounds good Jacob!
Theresa - I already know what the sugar cookies taste like.
Joe - Cause you ate three already?
Theresa - At least parts of three.
Alli - It tastes like a normal Reese's with crunchy bits.
Theresa - Nyughh. I don't like that.
Joe - Why don't you like it?
Theresa - It tastes gross.
Joe - The peanut butter isn't standing out to me.
Theresa - And with the weak peanut butter, the milk chocolate is coming through more. And I don't like it. At all.
Theresa - They did fall to the bottom, but wherever they are, they're still blah.
Jacob - When I think Reese's there's that signature flavor, but it's not in these. There's hints of it, but it's not quite there. It's even sweeter than normal which I didn't understand was possible with Reese's cups.
Theresa - It makes me want to eat dark chocolate right now. It's so sweet.
Trying the chocolate by itself.
Joe - It's a weird flavor chocolate.
Theresa - It's not good! Now I want to know what regular Reese's chocolate tastes like, because this seems different. I don't really care for Reese's chocolate, but I don't remember it being that bad.
Joe - I think it's the chocolate I dislike most about this. I tried the peanut butter and cookie alone and that tasted okay. Crunchy peanut butter.
Alli - The inside is fine. The outside is bleh.
Jacob - Did it fall out of temper? It's grittier chocolate.
Joe - We just bought them a week ago.
Joe - What did we find when we tried the sugar cookies earlier?
Theresa - That you better put sugar on top of the sugar cookies otherwise they taste GROSS!
Ian - They don't taste gross.
Joe - They taste bland without sugar on top of the sugar cookies?
Theresa - Not bland. Just gross.
Ian - That's a bit harsh. Ya think?
Alli - They were good!
Alli - I like them, but I think they could use more sugar.
Joe - You're right. They have a cinnamon flavor, but not a sweet flavor. I guess Cinna-Dust isn't as sweet as regular cinnamon sugar.
Okay....
Who thinks the Sugar Cookies are better than the Reese's?
Everyone.
Ian - No contest.
Alli - Definitely the sugar cookie.
Theresa - I never want to eat Reese's Sugar Cookie again. It's like they were trying to make a healthy chocolate or something. It's just the wrong thing.
Joe - I was expecting it to be white chocolate. White Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Sugar Cookie cups.
Jacob - I wouldn't go out of my way to buy these Reese's.
Sounds like a thumbs down for the Reese's Sugar Cookie PB cups...at least the candy wrapper was colorful & festive with the snowflakes :-) But lots of fun making the sugar cookies and decorating them with the colorful sugar...always a creative time when adding color atop the holiday-shaped cookies.
