It's a new year and it's time to get healthy! When you can't get in a healthy meal, why not substitute a meal replacement protein bar! These bars from Barebells have 200 calories and 20 grams of protein each! Barebells makes quite a few different flavors, so we figured we'd buy a whole bunch of them and see which would be our new favorites.
Today we will be trying six different flavors of Barebells Protein Bars.
Barebells Chocolate Dough, Barebells Cookies & Cream, Barebells Salty Peanut, Barebells Caramel Cashew, Barebells Creamy Crisp, Barebells White Chocolate Almond
Theresa is starting us off by cutting all the bars into slices to give us a look at the insides.
Donald - They're good for protein bars, but they still look better than they taste.
Barebells Cookies & Cream - Soft and creamy cookie-dough core covered in sweet milk chocolate and crunchy cookie crispies.
Barebells Chocolate Dough - Our delicious Chocolate Dough bars are filled with mouthwatering chocolate dough, covered in creamy milk chocolate, and coated in chocolate crisps.
Barebells White Chocolate Almond - Barebells White Chocolate Almond features a rich and gooey caramel center coated in creamy white chocolate and topped with pieces of crunchy delicious almonds.
Barebells Creamy Crisp - Incredibly smooth, Creamy Crisp is a caramel-filled bar covered in chocolate and topped with puffy crisps.
Barebells Caramel Cashew - A gooey caramel core enclosed in a chocolaty cover with real cashew nut chunks.
Rita - Number one is Salty Peanut. Two is Creamy Crisp. And I very much disliked the White Chocolate Almond.
Joe - They are protein bars and not candy bars. There are worse things.
First up is the one that everyone was most excited to try.
Barebells Salty Peanut - Smooth milk chocolate laced with crunchy, golden peanuts – a match made in heaven!
Donald - Ooh! I'm excited! When you're not on a diet it's probably not as exciting, but when you are, it's exciting.
Alli - Yummy!
Donald - My favorite!
Joe - The peanuts are soft though. I'm getting no crunch out of that.
Donald - I love love love it! That is my favorite to this point.
Theresa - That tastes so good to me! It reminds me of a diet Snickers. If a protein bar can taste kind of like a Snickers, then you win.
Theresa - That tastes so good to me! It reminds me of a diet Snickers. If a protein bar can taste kind of like a Snickers, then you win.
Don Federle - That would be worth 5 points (weight watchers) to me.
Becky - I like the texture. It's easy to chew. And I like the caramel layer. It's delicious. That's fantastic.
Donald - The saltiness with the chocolate helps. It does nice.
Joe - I'm getting a kind of acid flavor.
Ethan - Me too. The more and more I taste it, I don't like it.
Joe - Still getting the acid.
Becky - It's a little weird to me. The texture bothers me.
Theresa - Note that it is not cookie dough. It is chocolate dough. It tastes nothing like cookie dough.
Amy - I hate this one.
Rita - I do not like the inside of that one.
Theresa - It tastes the most like a protein bar.
Joe - I like it better than Cookies & Cream, but I do not like it.
Rita - That's my least favorite.
Donald - I'm with you.
Ethan - Me too. It's better than Cookies & Cream, but not good.
Becky - This one has the crisps on it too. I don't like those.
Theresa - This is why we taste them all together like this.
Donald - Yes! You can't spend $2 a piece for each bar and waste your money... So thank you for wasting yours!
(Laughs)
Theresa - You are most welcome! The things we sacrifice for our taste tests.
Rita - Oh!!!
Joe - Not at all! That is TERRIBLE!
Alli - That's horrible! I hate that one.
Amy - It tastes like it's from a smoker's house.
Ethan - I don't want a full piece now, after everyone's reaction.
Theresa - That was so nasty. Oh, it's so bad.
Amy - Is it worse than the Cookies & Cream?
Donald - Oh yeah! If that company could produce the Salty Peanut, why would they even make this one?
Joe - Donald, did you spit it out? (yes) Theresa? (yes) Alli (yes)
Ethan - I think it's the aftertaste that's bad. Like the Cookies & Cream.
Donald - It's kinda like puke in your mouth.
Joe - Well there goes the Barebells sponsorship...
Donald - I would rather have all the protein bars from Aldi before that.
Becky - I don't like this one as much. The taste of the filling is not good.
Don Federle - Does it have a bad aftertaste to you?
Becky - It just has a bad taste.
Amy - Mmm.
Joe - Is that coconutty flavor?
Alli - Don't love it.
Amy - I like it better than the Salty Peanut.
Donald - Not me.
Many declared it to be their #2 favorite.
Rita - That one is good.
Becky - It looks like a cheesecake sort of. Nope! Nope! Nope! It has a coffee or something taste to the nougat.
Theresa - I'm going to cut it for you then go wash my hands. No cashews for me.
Rita - Sometimes the caramel can be really off with these. I love caramel, but they don't always get it right.
Donald - Rita is a caramel connoisseur. She's the one who has taught me that not all caramel apples are the same.
Rita - The first taste is good.
Joe - Yeah! It's really got a sweet flavor.
Alli - Don't love it.
Amy - It's good so far. It's a very mild flavor. And I don't really taste cashew.
Rita - The caramel flavor is really good. It doesn't taste so artificial.
Joe - The nuts are soft again. I want them crunchy!
Becky - Oh that one is good.
Time to rate all the flavors! Which will win?
Tiff - Caramel Cashew, then Creamy Crisp. No White Chocolate.
Amy - Creamy Crisp, Caramel Cashew, then Salty Peanut. The White Chocolate Almond and Chocolate Dough were... (gags)
Donald - Salty Peanut wins hands down. Greatest protein bar ever made. And the Worst protein bar ever made it the White Chocolate Almond, from the same company! Ethan - Salty Peanut was the best one. Then Caramel Cashew was second. I didn't like White Chocolate, but I also didn't like Cookies & Cream.
Don Federle - I like the Salted Peanut and then the Cashew Caramel. Third is Creamy Crisp. The White Chocolate was the least.
Joe - I like the flavor of the Salty Peanut, but I wish it was crunchy. And then Creamy Crisp. Even though it doesn't say it has coconut, it tastes like coconut to me. Caramel Cashew was my third. White Chocolate Almond was the worst. I should have spat it out.
Theresa - Salty Peanut surpasses them by far! It is the best protein bar EVER! The White Chocolate Almond was deplorable!
Joe - Ooh, we like good words for the blog.
Becky - Salty Peanut is number one. Caramel Cashew number 2. White Chocolate is my least favorite.
Theresa - The White Chocolate Almond, I don't think I've had any protein bar that has tasted that bad.
Amy - Have you had anything that has tasted that bad?
Theresa - Oh yeah! Rotten foods.
Donald - I just think that whoever created the White Chocolate Almond should lose their job.
Joe - That's harsh!
Ethan - Don't they have to try that before they sell them?
Joe - Isn't there one that you didn't even buy for this taste test because you didn't like it.
Theresa - Hazelnut Crunch. But it wasn't as bad as the White Chocolate Almond.
So, the big winner today, if you're looking for a new protein bar, is the Barebells Salty Peanut! Stay far away from the White Chocolate Almond.
