Lay's Honey Butter Chips taste test comparison - from Canada - flavours from Korea

During our trip to Canada earlier this year, I found so many fun things I wanted to bring back home for a taste test. When I saw these chips, I knew we'd have to give them a try. Who doesn't love Honey Butter?

And what does Honey Butter go great on? Definitely fresh bread rolls. We're excited to try these all today!

When I think of rolls with a delicious honey butter, my mind goes to those hot and fresh Texas Roadhouse rolls. I've made them at home plenty of times and they're always a big hit. As soon as I told Theresa my plans for the day's taste test, she adjusted her meals and calories to make sure she'd have plenty left over for this taste test.
I've used this recipe from JoCooks.com and it's always turned out great.

The only difference is that I omitted the cinnamon from the honey butter in today's recipe. For honey butter, you just whip together butter, honey, and a little bit of powdered sugar.

My rolls have been enjoying the warm Florida sunshine and have risen nicely. I cut them just a little smaller than the traditional rolls. Into the oven they go for 12 minutes!

And when they come out, they get brushed with melted butter. Look how it transforms an ordinary looking roll to a buttery masterpiece.

Looking at the package, it looks enticing. Big rolls of butter and lots of drizzling honey.
Since this is inspired by flavors of Korea, the bag is labelled in Korean characters "Honey Butter" before the English and French labels.

The back of the bag also claims it is Sweet, "Sweet Flavor" in Korean. And Buttery, "Rich Butter Flavor" in Korean.
I do like the color choice for this bag too. All the yellows and golds give the impression of rich butter and honey.

Enough chatting. The rolls are getting cold! Which should we try first?
Theresa - The chips. Because there's no way they're going to be as good as the rolls.
Joe - How do they smell? They don't have much smell. But how to they taste?

Theresa - Huh! That's a pretty good chip!
Joe - I get that "fatty" rich flavor. They have a powder of some kind on them.
Ian - Very good.
Theresa - They are sweet and buttery.
Joe - I don't know that I taste honey. I taste sweet. I like them. They are very good.
Ian - That's for sure.
Theresa - I like them. You need to take them away from me.
Jacob - I'm not sure I like them. They're not bad, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get them.

Looks like they do actually have a seasoning on them. Sugar and modified milk ingredients and the first ingredients. No wonder they have such a sweet flavor to them. There is Honey Powder in them, but it's pretty far down the list. Not surprising we can't taste it.

Now it's time to dig into those amazing rolls. Theresa adding tasty honey butter to each.
Joe - I also made these delicious Texas Roadhouse Rolls. Nice and warm. And some tasty honey butter.
Alli - Can I just have a half?
Theresa - Really? Can I have a whole?
Ian - I want a whole one too.

Alli - The bread is better.
Ian - It isn't a question.
Joe - But for being a chip, it's a pretty good chip.
Ian - But let's be honest here. When did the chip really stand a chance?
Theresa - Not when it's fresh bread. Good thing we had the chip first.

Joe - This one, I taste the honey in. The butter definitely has the flavor of honey.
Ian - This is dinner tonight!
Theresa - I'm glad you made them small. Regardless what size they are, I'd want 3 of them.

Jacob - That's what I'm talking about! The rolls are really yummy.

Theresa - My hand is happy.

Ian - It's unanimous. The bread wins. It's a 10 out of 10. The chip is 7 out of 10.
Theresa - But that's like one of the first Lays flavor that I've enjoyed. Like, from your weird flavors. Not the special normal flavors.
Joe - Thumbs up for both.
Ian - Delicious. I would eat any of these.

The chips today were surprisingly tasty. Maybe not as much honey flavor as I was hoping for, but it was a sweet and rich flavor on the chip. If you see them, I'd suggest giving them a try!
