I love finding different Doritos flavors! My family even did a taste test with 23 different flavors!
So, I was thrilled to find another version of that tasty corn tortilla chip. We've got some interesting flavors to try here today.
Doritos Tangy Ketchup and Doritos Hot Mustard!
And along with the Doritos chips, we're going to compare it to the real thing by dipping plain tortilla chips in ketchup and mustard. Will they get the flavor right?
Thank you Patrick for finding these and picking them up.
The chips themselves are a reddish/orange color. If you didn't know, you might mistake them for a Nacho Cheese chip.
The bag has a squeeze bottle of ketchup.
And the back promises Another Level of Sweet Tangy Crunch.
Sheila - So are we going to just eat Ketchup? I used to eat Ketchup sandwiches growing up.
Joe - Aren't Ketchup chips a Canadian thing?
Megan - This is reminiscent of when I dip my Cheetos in ketchup. With a little kick at the end.
Patrick - It tastes like Nacho Cheese with a hint of extra.
Theresa - It tastes like powdered ketchup. It's pretty good.
Megan - It really does taste like ketchup.
Patrick - It has tomato powder and onion powder in it.
So, do these really taste like Ketchup? We've brought out some plain tortilla chips along with a bowl of ketchup to dip them in to do a real comparison.
Megan - I think they captured it well.
Theresa - I get a little kick on the back side of the ketchup. I think they captured it quite well.
Avery - I like it!
Ian - I like dipping my chips in ketchup.
Theresa - That was better than I thought it would be, dipping a tortilla chip in ketchup.
Now let's try the Doritos Hot Mustard. These chips could be confused with normal tortilla chips.
The bag is that bright yellow mustard color, and there's a squeeze bottle of mustard on the front. The mustard coming out of it gives the impression of flames. It's not exactly the container I'm used to seeing Hot Mustard come from, but they're consistent between this bag and the ketchup ones. We can also see that the tortilla chip appears to be on fire! I suppose that means it's hot.
Nothing special on the back of this bag. It's the same advertisements we're used to seeing to try other flavors.
Patrick - The mustard chips do have mustard in them.
Megan - And rosemary extract! Interesting!
Theresa - It smells a little like Cool Ranch, but it also smells like the hot Chinese mustard. Like the kind you'd find at a restaurant.
Theresa - Whoa! Those taste like spicy brown mustard! Oh my goodness.
Megan - It's like the pretzels.
Joe - They did a good job with that one.
Megan - I really like those. Well done Doritos. Well done.
Joe - They taste a lot like spicy mustard. I just had spicy mustard on my fingers that I licked off and it tastes like that.
Sheila - That's good!
Joe - You know what? I like chips dipped in mustard too. That's good.
Theresa - The only thing I don't enjoy when I'm dipping my chip is the wetness. But the flavor is so similar in both of them.
Megan - I think this is one of the taste tests where they've gotten the closest to the actual thing.
Theresa - I agree.
Patrick - Well, when you put the actual thing into the ingredients..
Mickey - They did a good job.
Patrick dipping his Mustard Doritos chip in ketchup, and Megan dipping her Ketchup Doritos chip in mustard.
Ian - I don't really like any of them.
Theresa - They matched the flavor really well.
Joe - Anyone's new favorite?
Patrick - No, that will stay Cool Ranch.
Is there a favorite between the two?
Patrick - I like the ketchup one.
Megan - I like mustard. I wonder if a honey mustard chip would be good.
Theresa - I go back and forth between the two. They're both good.
