Continuing with our Summer 2024 Road Trip, it's time to travel into Maryland!
Our travel day today is a short 2 hour drive! We've just got to get around this branch of Chesapeake Bay!
Because it's a short travel day, we were able to check in to the RV Campground, park the RV, and go exploring with plenty of time to do more things today!
Like visit Six Flags! (I know Washington DC is nearby too, but we visited for a week last year [gotta write that up], and I don't feel like driving The Beast in a busy city).
We've spent our summer going on some crazy rides, including the tallest roller coaster in the world Kingda Ka (456 feet). The Wild One (previously known at The Giant Coaster) held the world record for Tallest Coaster at one point too! Back in 1917, this 98 foot coaster was the tallest in the world!
In 1986, it was moved from Massachusetts to Maryland and renamed The Wild One.
And sure enough, it was pretty rough.
The three of us in the back were totally shaken up with this, our first ride of the day.
Next, it's time to head over to the Super Hero side of the park.
And whenever you find a super hero, you're sure to find a good villain. Like the Joker!
And Harley Quinn!
We'll start over here on a fun little ride called Joker's Jinx.
There's a creepy Joker stretching out over you while you're in line. Luckily it's a pretty short line today. But for some reason they're not boarding the middle 4 cars.
Didn't we just ride on Wonder Woman's Lasso of Truth in New Jersey? It was a giant swinging pendulum there.
Here it's a tall spinning swing.
That stretches 243 feet high into the air!
And it's really fun when they crank up the speed up top and you're pushing outwards instead of just hanging down.
Time to ride Superman: Ride of Steel.
This one looks very familiar.
Super short line here today!
Turns out, it's identical to the Ride of Steel (that had the Superman branding removed) at Darien Lake that we rode earlier this summer!
It was a lot of fun and we rode it multiple times.
For being such an old ride though, it was really long, taking us on a trip halfway across the park!
Next, we walked over to the Voodoo Drop. This line wasn't moving very fast, and when we got there, it was obvious why. Only one side and one set of 4 seats was running!
And it's a really quick ride.
It's a spinning, twisting coaster that's really compact. The launch is fun, and I get the name "Spaghetti Bowl Coaster" now, since it's a jumble of track all in one spot. Not bad.
The only issue we saw was at the end, right before you get to the station. You come over a few bumpy hills and then the brakes hit. Hard! It's rather jarring and you're thrown forward in your seat. We learned to brace ourselves when we knew it was coming up. One teen girl we saw was not so lucky and got off the ride with a bloody nose, having hit the backrest in front of her!
Off to the next coaster!
It's the Batwing!
The kids and I love those "Superman" style coasters where you're hanging down like you're flying. This seems to be a precursor to those. You start out on your back, then roll over during the ride.
So much fun!
Anyone hungry? This was the very first park we've been to that allowed us to use our dining credit on an actual funnel cake!
Our next big coaster today is the Firebird.
With short lines, we waited for the front row.
It's fun, but I think it'd be better at night due to the fire effect that look like they go off around the track.
Another snack? This was advertised as a Korean Street Dog.
I checked with my Korean mother-in-law and she said she'd never heard of that. A hot dog coated with Flamin' Hot Cheetos.
This SteamWhirler is a crazy little ride that looks like it can be fun. It's a two seater and the kids figured I needed someone beside me. Alli decided she could ride along and took the seat behind us.
And it's almost like two rides for the price of one! You load up and start on the bottom, do the ride, then wait at the top while the next group loads. Then you go around again!
Next up, we have Professor Screamore's Skywinder. What a great name for a coaster!
And it wasn't busy at all!
The kids got the front seat and I was right behind them.
And let me tell you, it was a crazy rough experience! Alli said it reminded her of the Riddler's Revenge at Six Flags New England that we thought was so rough. Turns out, it's exactly the same ride layout. And it's been repeated dozens of times at different theme parks around the world.
This Vekoma built 689m standard is really whippy. It can be fun if you see it coming, but if it catches you unaware, it's hard to brace yourself. The front row is definitely the best seat.
It is definitely a head rattler and you'll come away with a headache. But with no line, we moved backwards and forwards finding an open row and rode it five times!
Before we go, let's hit a few of our favorites. Another ride or two on the Batwing.
And Superman is great if you know what's coming.

There's been rankings regarding the "Worst Coasters In the World". This model took the #2 spot in the video below.
Harley Quinn's Spinsanity wasn't working earlier today, but we found it running later. It's always a fun thrill.
At 6:30pm, it was time for the park to close and time for us to head home. It wasn't a long visit, but we're happy to have added yet another Six Flags park to our list!

Back to Cherry Hill Campground where the kids played on the playground and ran around with other kids while T and I get things packed up and ready to move the next day.
