2024 Summer Road Trip - Maryland Day 2 - 2024/08/14
It's our second day after a very short stay in Maryland, but it marks a very important occasion for us!
It's been just over 3 years since we started this whole crazy full-time RV adventure. 3 years of memories, adventure, friends, and family. Theresa has been an awesome planner, keeping us booked in different parks in all the different places. We've been keeping track of all the states we've visited on a map on the side of the RV. With last night's stay, we can check Maryland off the list.
Getting ready to add our sticker. Gathering the whole family.
Please do us the honors Ian!
Our map of all the lower 48 states is complete!
We've stayed a night inside the RV in every single one of those states, and have fun memories of doing something in each and every one of them.
What about Alaska and Hawaii? Well, I'm not sure we'll ever get the RV up to Alaska. Maybe we'll do a family cruise or something there one of these days. It's also the last US state for all of us to visit. The kids want to load the RV onto a ferry and take it to Hawaii. That's not happening either. So, for us, this is going to be a complete record of all our visited states. Great job everyone!
We didn't get much chance to look at the campground yesterday. Theresa and I took a walk around in the morning while we got everything packed up to leave.
Overall it looks very clean.
And it kept up very well.
100 years of camping. Wow! And in 1936, the first Airstream arrived.
Being a little outside of Washington DC, they even have a help desk to set up car rides and bus tours to get into the city! Helpful if all you've got to drive is a big truck, or worse an RV! Wouldn't want to try to navigate downtown Washington DC in that!
Buses and trains too!
Overall, a very nice spot to camp. We ducked into the office, just to see if they had a late checkout option. Some places will let you stay a few hours after checkout for a nominal fee. I don't recall if they didn't offer it, or if the fee was more than we were willing to pay, but we opted to get hooked up and head out instead.
But it's only a 2 hour drive to our next destination... Hmm. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Let's go back to Six Flags! We arrived around 11:30am and it was a little busier at the entrance gate than it was yesterday.
And uh... Yes. There's that too. Beauty is coming along for the ride! It was a tight squeeze, but she made it!
There were hardly any buses, and we were directed to park in that section. We took the spot at the very end of the parking lot.
We'll be back soon!
Back inside Six Flags America and just doing whatever we feel like for a few hours.
Might as well use the free dining plan to get some lunch today.
And then take a ride on some of our favorite coasters.
This track goes out a ways from the park, and as we were zipping by, we saw a family of deer grazing beside the coaster. Guess they're used to the loud noises by now.
Over to the Nightwing!
We happily rode multiple times. Love these flying type coasters.
And very happy that we don't have to wait in those long queues we see.
There's one more coaster here that we haven't ridden. It was closed yesterday and we've got to ride it if we want to say we've ridden them all here.
It's ROAR!
This feels like an old wooden coaster, but it's actually pretty new, having been built in 1998.
It's not the tallest or fastest, but it felt pretty long for the type of coaster it was. We had a bumpy ride in the back, but I'm glad we were able to do it.
Well that's it friends. It's 3pm and time to head back to the parking lot, collect the RV, and drive to the next campground!
It's been a fun summer, getting in so many different Six Flags parks and going on so many different roller coasters. The kids have become real coaster junkies and haven't been afraid to ride anything!
The sign on the way out seemed very appropriate!
That's all Folks! We'll be back again for more adventures!
